IN MEMORIAM JOSEPH MARX (1882- 1964)
September 3 is the date on which we commemorate JOSEPH MARX (1882-1964), whose Piano Quartet in the Form of a Rhapsody was presented in its American premiere by the New York Piano Quartet at the 2009 New York Chamber Music Festival at Symphony Space in New York City. The New York Piano Quartet's recording of the "Rhapsodie" by Joseph Marx was praised in Gramophone Magazine as "impassioned and vividly-detailed" and in American Record Guide as "exhilarating" (Photo by Yui Kitamura).

PABLO PICASSO's "Seashells on a Piano" (1912) fits our album of piano quartets like a glove! Picasso used in this work everything you see here - the oval shape (with instruments, piano keys and music notes), the wood grain (which, for us, symbolizes our string instruments) and the wide black stripes on top and bottom of the painting (hinting towards the presence of a raven-black grand piano). Picasso's title "Seashells on a Piano" brings one more strong "piano" reference and unifies a concept that is beyond-perfect for an album of piano quartets!! This art is irresistibly fitting for our album cover!
In Memoriam ALFRED SCHNITTKE (1934-1988)
On August 3 we commemorate ALFRED SCHNITTKE who died on this day in 1988. Our recording (for the Urlicht label) of Schnittke's "Piano Quartet after Mahler's Sketches" was hailed in Gramophone Magazine as "the definitive interpretation"
